No Tears To Flow is a book about Vietnam. It is a woman's story of that war which has so divided the opinions of the world.
It is, however, more than just another book about war. It is a book about two love affairs - one between the author and an Australian soldier: the other, between the author and the Vietnamese people.
Rena Briand was born on the French-German border, educated locally and in Switzerland, then lived in Canada and became a Canadian citizen. Marriage to an adventurer took her to many places: Tangier, Karachi, Kyoto, Mexico City - and in 1965 to Saigon. The breakup of her marriage there left her at bare subsistence level. She ate at sidewalk stalls with Vietnamese refugees until she found work as a freelance photojournalist.
She has lived in Australia since 1967, and has now made writing her career.
