The book takes the reader through the journey of the author’s life from his difficult birth in a Glasgow slum to the present day. It is an account of his time living and growing up in the poor East end of Glasgow, his travels, and the hardships and challenges he faced maintaining a job in Scotland. He eventually travelled the world through his work as a contractor and met many different kinds of people, some of whom are alluded to in this memoir. He also had many adventures along the way and many sexual interludes that in the end made him realize what he had to face up to regarding his own sexual preference, difficult as that was. It is one man’s account of his struggle coming to terms with his inert homosexuality and his acceptance of it, and latterly his attempts to remain as a father to his two children. As a consequence he faced a lot of anguish and confused emotions early in his life and a tenuous relationship with his family that he had to overcome. Many men live the double life and remain unfulfilled and unhappy, but not many men write a book about their struggle and tell it as it is. This true story is such a book.
