One hard working father, one creative but highly strung mother and two small boys, living on the outskirts of Bexhill-on- Sea. A fairly conventional suburban nuclear family.
But this nuclear family is primed and ready to explode when the father breaks the news that will change all of their lives forever.
My Psycho Mother charts the fall-out from the news, the nuclear winter that follows it, and the long hard road that the two close siblings take to their final bloody redemption.
Along the way, Danny, the chief protagonist and narrator, has to grow up fast to deal with his father’s estrangement, his younger brother, Julio’s vulnerability, his mother’s weird devotion to her moronic new partner Carl and her slavish veneration of the spawn of that match, horrendous half-brother Brryann.
Through all of this, Danny is having to cope with his own rude sexual awakening and the realisation that he’s effectively alone in the world.
Their cruel marginalisation by both parents takes a terrible toll on Danny and Julio, but their plan to assert their rights by reasonable means goes careering catastrophically off the rails leading to a terrifying finale to this stark tale of disastrous parenting.
The family carnage charted in My Psycho Mother is shot through with hilarious observations and sharp insights into the slights, humiliations and hardships faced by Danny and his brother. This is black comedy at its darkest and funniest.
