“One of the pleasantest new personalities in Crime Fiction.” - The Sunday Times
In the turmoil of Europe and the changing balance of alliances, vast efforts are being made by British and American counterespionage agents to discover the source of what they believe to be the biggest security break in history.
The top-secret conversations between the American President in the White House in Washington and the British Prime Minister in his room in Downing Street are being monitored and recorded by a Soviet agent.
Against this background, Mr. Holmes of Downing Street is exploring new scientific methods in espionage and putting his counter-theories into practice.
For many, the attraction of Mr. Holmes and the Fair Armenian will not only be in the taut suspense of the action, but in the characters themselves…Morrison of the Yard, Proudfoot of the Embassy, and above all the memorable portrait of the fair Armenian, the tired but beautiful Roma Goldian.
Goldian is an American agent, without love, without hope, who can only pride herself on being a professional, a woman who knows the quickest way to a man’s carotid sinus but never to his heart …
The taut suspense of the action climaxes in the authentic details of the Special Branch operation which seals off the whole of Mayfair in a dramatic chase to catch a spy.
Mr Holmes and the Fair Armenian is an original espionage thriller which delves into a world of secrets, scandal and spies.
