Marx's writings in economics, particularly labor and its relation to capital, have had tremendous influence on subsequent economic thought. His two influential works are Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei (The Communist Manifesto) (1848) and Das Kapital (Capital) (1867–1894).
At an early stage of his though he became interested in Hegel's philosophy. He later worked out his theory of dialectical materialism.
Karl Marx died in 1883 in London.
