    Michael James Whitty, Wexford journalist, founder of the Liverpool Police force and Fire Service in 1836 and was Liverpool’s first Head Constable. He was also the founder of the ‘Liverpool Daily Post’ in 1855 and it first editor.

    Dame May Whitty, the first actress to be knighted, and one of the founders of the actors union.

    Agnes Elizabeth Jones, born in Ireland in 1832, she was asked by Florence Nightingale if she would take over the running of the infirmary at the Liverpool Workhouse in 1865. Writing on the 4 February 1867, Agnes wrote:
    I sometimes wonder if there is a worse place on earth, but I never regret coming and I never wish to give it up.
