The Learn to Read Series includes 22 books, which are conveniently boxed in 4 sets. The books were written by a teacher to support children as they learn to read. For optimal learning, you should start with Book #1 and work through the series as your child masters each book.
The first book introduces the sight word “a”. Children read about the animals on a farm. As the child moves through the series, they will soon be reading about my birthday in book #6 where there are 8 sight words. Continuing on and reading the entire 22 book collection, children will soon be reading and using 27 sight words. At the same time children learn other foundational reading skills including voice/print match, print direction, punctuation, and using beginning letter sounds. Children who have gone through the series tend to be better prepared for and more successful in school.
Set Four of these Common Core aligned books include: Hamburger, The Train, Fishing, Castle, and My Seed.
Cathy Jipner has enjoyed teaching young people to read for over thirty years. She has been both a classroom and a literacy teacher. Currently Cathy is a literacy teacher and uses these books with the children at the elementary school where she teaches.
