About
This book describes how the written, but uncodified, English Constitution developed over the centuries from the time of Alfred the Great to modern times. It describes how restrictions, such as Magana Carta and the Declaration and Bill of Rights, were imposed on Kings (and parliaments called by Kings) to prevent injustices upon those they ruled and to set limits on their exercise of power. The book challenges the concept, often postulated, that Parliament is sovereign and considers that government should not be party to the making or changing of constitutions - for obvious reasons.
