Sadie spent most of her life working hard each day just to survive on a farm in northern Saskatchewan. But with most of the world’s population wiped out from nuclear war and the resulting zombie apocalypse, Sadie and her family are the lucky ones. Sadie is safe, and she has her lover Amelia, who went through hell before arriving on the farm. With reliable trading connections in La Ronge, Sadie knows things could be a lot worse.
Rumors of a fortified town, complete with sewage and electricity and plenty of food, make their way to La Ronge and Sadie’s farm. Sadie thinks it’s too good to be true, and she’s horrified when her friend (and part-time lover) Manny takes off to find this place for herself. Manny, like so many other long-term survivors of the war, is tired to hiding out from zombies and wants to have a real life.
Sadie would stay forever on the farm in isolation with her family. But disaster forces her to make a choice. And she and Amelia, and their loved ones, learn that safety and comfort come at a high price in this new life.
