A journey from the closet and childhood into acceptance and young adulthood, Impressions is a poetry collection written and cataloged during the author’s mid-to-late teens. Encompassing themes of sexual identity, social criticism, and love, the collection tells a coming of age of a gay millennial teenager in the early years of the twenty first century. Emotions run strong as the author realizes that he isn’t alone in the world in having same sex attractions and meets other LGBT teens. Impressions poignantly captures the challenge of coming out of the closet as gay to family, friends, and the world. The poetry style varies with free verse strongly represented but occasionally shifting into sonnet and metered formats. From sophomoric to polished, the collection maps the evolution of a young author finding his voice as a writer and as an adult.
