This book, I Pledge Allegiance… and includes stories based on their individual feelings, knowledge and experiences as former military personnel, first responders or police officers. These true-life accounts of Heroism, Patriotism, belief in the American dream, of survival and sacrifice. These stories of heroism and patriotism, maybe not from the people themselves, but by the Wednesday Warrior Writers who remember what they did.
This Las Vegas based writing group of civil servants-turned-writers, the Wednesday Warrior Writers, became inspired from a member’s personal story of her grandson’s death serving in Iraq and his final journey home in the arms of his father with members of her writing group. It made such an impact that they decided to compile an anthology of over fifty stories to celebrate American valor, heroism and patriotism - written by authors: Merle Savage (the grandmother who inspired the book), Charles McKee, Jack Miller, Marshal Taylor, Rena Winters, Robert Fregeau, Robert Cawley, Keith Bettinger, Dennis Griffin, Rob Corbin and Michael MacQuarrie.
“The Wednesday Warrior Writers Project brings together retirees and veterans and puts them into a creative environment where they can share their stories and perfect the writing craft to express themselves,” W3 President Keith Bettinger said. “When the concept of writing then selling a book came to fruition, the only organization we could think of, which serves active duty, retirees and veterans in a communal atmosphere was the USO Las Vegas Center. That's why we´re donating the proceeds from the sale of this book.”
- For this, we at the Las Vegas USO are grateful and thank the Wednesday Warrior Writers.
