Here's a question for you: What is the second most important thing your book must have (right after a good cover.)?
If you answered Professional Editing, Bingo! You're right. Score 100 %
I think we can all agree, good editing is a must, but must it be professional?
Perhaps not, if you have a very good friend who can spend a week or more of time, gratis. Lacking that, what can you do? How about making a deal to swap services with a good author? Impossible, you say. Not really. Good authors need other things that you can provide. Think of what you can do. Can you edit, proofread, buy or borrow their books, post reviews? If you choose someone who has books on Kindle Direct, you can borrow and read all their books in one month for $9.99.
Another good source is your local librarian. Perhaps she has some spare time and would like to learn editing as a new skill. So, now you have your friend lined up, invested perhaps $9.99. Invest just $1.98 more and buy two copies of this little book, one for you, one for your friend. Between the covers is everything you two need to know to edit a book. The instructions are for Microsoft Word 2007 and above, but can be adapted to any good editing software. Works best if you and your friend have the same brand of software.
