‘Head Over Heels About Gymnastics’ is a child friendly book that provides step-by-step instructions and top tips explaining how to perform a large variety of gymnastic floor skills via simple language and eye catching photography. This book is a must-have for all budding gymnasts of all ages and abilities, covering many different elements of the sport from balance to strength, flexibility, co-ordination, speed and control in addition to positive body awareness.
The book begins with example warms-ups and stretches, moving on to cover posture and all basic gymnastics shapes, which are instrumental in performing more complex skills. These skills are then covered in the next sections; Jumps, Skills, Rolls and Leaps. Bringing all of these skills together, the book then demonstrates how combined, these skills can be used to create routines.
I was one of the kids you occasionally see tumbling ‘Head over Heels’ along the road to school – why walk on your feet when you can walk on your hands?
This enthusiasm has never left me, I have tried my hand at more conventional jobs but nothing else has given me the same buzz. Throughout my childhood and teenage years I helped out at my local gym club where I was lucky to have great inspirational coaches. I went on to run my own club at the earliest possible opportunity aged 18. I look back and wonder how I coped at such a young age but I never doubted that this was what I was supposed to do. I feel really lucky to do something that I am both good at, really enjoy and which makes a difference to people in the local community.
I thrive on challenges and my next is to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with as many children as possible through this book.
I am a fully qualified gymnastics coach and run a popular gymnastics club with over 200 members. This club has been successfully running for over 10 years in schools and leisure centres.
