    About

Are you jealous of the rich people, who live a life doing only what they want and when they want? You on the other side have to do work that you maybe don’t always enjoy. You need to get up early, stay on a long commute, perform more or less meaningful tasks at work, just to come home tired and uninspired. All of this happens, because you have to work in order to earn your living. So having to go out and earn your living is the source of a lot of problems. Since rich people do not need to do this, it's understandable that we are jealous of them.

One of the biggest dilemma in life is that we got bills to pay, and at the same time we have the longing to do what we love. Only a few lucky people have a job they love, which also allows them to pay their bills. For rest of us, our job is only a means to an end, namely to ensure that the bills get paid. Most people would not voluntarily do their job without getting paid. Doing what you love to do on the other hand is usually not paid well. It might be difficult to find the job or the right business model for the activities that really interest you. So what remaining choices are you left with? What you likely find on the job market are either jobs that you would love but that pay little or jobs that pay well, but that you hate. This is what we call a dilemma: the choice between two sub-optimal alternatives. You are sure to lose one or the other way, either you are unhappy or you will be penniless.

To break free from this dilemma, I propose a life phases model that is quite different from the traditional model and the commonly known alternative models. This life phases model has two equally important goals. The first goal of the life phases model is building at least one -- if not several -- sustainable, low-maintenance income streams that cover your cost of living. Just as important is the second goal, which is to spend your time doing what you love. It is even attempted to combine both goals by building an income stream based on activities that you love.

This books shows a way out. Financial Independence is a journey. It can be quite a tough journey and you will have ups and downs. Without a map you might get lost or take unnecessary detours. This book is a map for your journey. It provides you with a strategy to achieve financial independence with fewer sacrifices and much less pain.
