Dale Cregan is a psychotic killer imprisoned for life in June 2013, for the cold-blooded murders of PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone, whom he lured into a murderous trap with a bogus 999 call. Cregan claimed that he targeted the two officers because he blamed the Greater Manchester Police for victimising his family during their investigation of two earlier killings.
The murder of the police officers came only five weeks after Cregan had shot dead, David Short, the leader of a rival Manchester crime gang. Eleven weeks before that, Cregan had killed David Short’s son, Mark.
After his trial at Preston Crown Court, Cregan was sent to HMP Full Sutton near York. However, he is currently (February 2015) being held at Ashworth high-security psychiatric hospital in Merseyside. He was moved there in September 2013, after going on hunger strike.
Inside Ashworth, Cregan is convinced that Hollywood film producers will pay a fortune for his story. The deluded killer has already selected Jason Statham to play himself in the film.
One of the staff at the top security hospital said: “He’s mistaken to think anyone would want his vile outpourings.
"He thinks he's some kind of underworld legend but in reality he's just a scumbag drug dealer from Manchester, who took the lives of two innocent women for the hell of it.”
