FOOTBALL CRAZY - FOR CHILDREN COPING WITH LOSS
THIS EDITION INCLUDES A FREE CHILDREN’S BOOK
Football Crazy is a warmhearted and humorous short kids story specially written for children coping with loss. It is easy to read aloud and designed for all the family to share and discuss.
Sooner or later children have to learn about death and loss. Many parents struggle to say the right things to their children while trying to cope with their own feelings of grief and loss. We are all only human and sometimes we just can’t find the words. This is where stories come in.
A story shared within a family can help prepare your children for coping with difficult times of their life. For a family going through a period of loss and grief, sharing a story can open up the discussion so that questions can be answered and children’s fears can be understood and reassured.
FOOTBALL CRAZY
Football Crazy is about a boy called Jimmy who shares his love of football with his mum and dad and especially his grandad. They all love to watch football, talk football and play football.
Then one day, grandad doesn't want to come to the match, and he doesn’t want to see his family. Soon everyone's worried about him. Why doesn't he care about football any more? Jimmy and his mum and dad decide to pay grandad a visit and that’s when they discover the sad truth.
Suddenly everything changes - nothing’s the same without grandad and nobody’s football crazy any more. Jimmy misses his grandad terribly but without football to keep them together pretty soon he’s missing his mum and dad too.
Can Jimmy get the family back in the game again?
REVIEWS FOR FOOTBALL MAD
‘Brilliant book, I think we can shy away from difficult emotions in children's lives and stories (death, grief, sadness) which is a pity because stories are a subtle way of introducing dialogue with kids. I wish I had had a book like this when I was a child following my own dad’s death.'
'Great story. It shows how life can turn back to normal even after a severe blow to a family changes things for a while. A very good message for kids and they love the reassurance of that long term stability. It's a message well constructed and seen through the childs eyes. Very moving. My niece loved it, and I did too.’
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Grace Jolliffe was born and brought up in Toxteth, Liverpool. Her mother was a Liverpudlian and her father an Irish immigrant who took the cattle boat with his brothers to follow the emigration trail to Liverpool in the 1950’s.
The family became returning emigrants when they moved back to Wicklow in Ireland when Grace was a teenager.
She now lives with her husband in Galway on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, where she is busy writing and gardening. She writes for adults as well as children and enjoys both equally.
Her first novel, Piggy Monk Square, (for adults) was originally published by Tindal Street Press and was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writer’s prize and was chosen as RTE Radio One's Book of the Week
Grace’s writing has been widely published in both magazines and newspapers, and she has also written for television and film. Her short films have won several awards at film festivals.
Her children’s stories were regularly broadcast on RTE One, Ireland’s National Radio Station.
Grace loves nature. Gardening and hill walking are two of her favourite pastimes. She would love to see more children (and adults) enjoying themselves outdoors and always tries to encourage this in her writing.
