    About

    FELT IT for beginners

25 projects for decoration and therapy

My name is Yovka and this felting book is my gift to all of you who:

Enjoy crafting and would like to try the art of felting but don’t know how to start

The book provides complete step-by-step photo instructions starting with the easiest projects and gradually adding ideas and techniques until the moment when you will be ready to bring out your inner creative force and make your own variations to suit your taste and style.

Love doing some “real” work with your children

Children love the softness and warm colors of wool and these 25 simple felt patterns are an ideal way to learn together. It is developmentally important AND a real fun to make your hands do the required movements and to have a finished product at the end. You can also use it as a way to include the children in the making of home decoration during holidays such as Christmas or Easter.

    Are primary or craft teachers

Working part time as a craft teacher in a Waldorf school I know that it is always exciting to present a new activity or a new way of doing some already familiar to the children technique. Wet felting is safe, neither too easy, nor too difficult and should be an interesting option for you, provided you are not too frustrated with wet stains all around. It is also convenient to use in periods of the day when children need to rest and calm down but are unwilling to take a nap.

Are art therapists or SEN teachers- working with children with special needs

You know that children need sensory activities- they love to touch and feel, to splash water and rub things… All these activities are fun and have therapeutic effects at the same time. To my experience, wool processing and felting are very attractive to the children. I did most of this book’s projects with the group of children with disabilities I work with– autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, dyslexia, etc... I witnessed with deep joy their satisfaction and the light in their eyes when they see the result of their work and feel included and skilful.
The 25 DIY felting projects that you will find in the book vary from basic forms such as balls, worms and spirals to more sophisticated items like flower corsages, jewels elements, clothes accessories, Christmas and Easter decorations, etc. Most of them are for wet welting and a few represent the technique of needle felting.
Yovka Hristova is a mathematician by education and a mother of two children. After her daughter was diagnosed with autism she discovered that her hobbies – crafting, teaching and early methods for child development – were useful for the condition of her child and had therapeutic effects as well. She started teaching various crafting techniques to children with disabilities and to their mothers. In the last few years she carried out free workshops adapted for children with special needs.

FELT IT! Don’t only follow instructions but most of all relish the moment, feel the gentle textiles and express your emotions!
