§ In 1849, Marey enrolled at the faculty of medicine to study physiology and surgery. He qualified as a doctor in 1859.
§ In 1864, he first studied blood circulation in the human body. This lead to further studies of respiration, muscles and movement of the body using polygraphs, dromographs, sphygmographs and myographs.
§ In 1873, his studies of the walk of man and horse, flight of birds and insects was published in La Machine Animale.
§ In 1874, Marey perfected the ‘photographic gun’, capable of taking twelve exposures in one second. In 1882, he invented a chronophotographic fixed plate camera, equipped with a timed shutter.
