    About

Time To Big Me Up is a series of episodes telling a story about a journey, which may not have happened.

It is about my journey from an event which changed, actually, nearly ended, my life. Nearly three decades ago, I was in a car crash, which left me in a coma.
TTBMU starts from the accident and my survival; then the assessment of damages; followed by the (never ending) recovery.

It is told in chronological order, with my reflections at the time and my reflections now as I write each episode. This has been very beneficial for me.

TTBMU is an honest account of events as I recall them. As a result it does have moments of sorrow. Some make me cry now, even as I write and proofread. However, it also has moments of humour, including, at times, absurdity.

Overall TTBMU is positive. As per the title, I am bigging me up. I am not just looking back on my successes, but also my failures. However I am not looking at these failures from a negative viewpoint. My mindset is that these failures have contributed to my overall achievement.

In bigging me up, I am not attributing all of the success solely to me. Yes, I played a big part, but I am also recognising the support I have received from a wide and evolving team of individuals. These have been family, friends, colleagues and professionals. In looking back I have also recognised that occasional input, which at the time was seen as negative, contributed in a positive way in future.

TTBMU is a story, and can be read purely in that light. However, in the way that I have found the writing of my reflections beneficial. I believe that my reflections can be beneficial to others if they apply them in their own personal circumstances, whether recovering from an event or supporting someone in their recovery or just in their life in general.

The biggest lesson I have learnt is that although I have continually reviewed events throughout my life - exam or test results at school; sporting events; deals won and deals lost - I have not reflected deep enough. I have often been too shallow.

I have not just looked at a single game, I have applied it to the whole team or whole season. I have not just looked at a single deal. I have applied it to my overall performance and my company. However I have rarely reflected on it outside of this confinement, to my life as a whole and the people important to me. Or I have not done this until events have made me, and at times this was too late.

TTBMU has taught me to take time out more frequently to perform reflection on my life as a whole. Just wish I hadn’t left it so long.

TTBMU started as an exercise for my benefit, and the benefit of those close to me. This has been due to the events of the last couple of years encouraging me to really look back at my life in depth.
