    About

Review-bombing is a technique by which an author finds books in the same category as his or her own and leaves one or more fraudulent, negative review in order to make their competition a bit less competitive. A number of now-successful e-book authors have admitted to using this technique, and it's anyone's guess how many otherwise viable books have seen their numbers drop due to this practice.

Enter D.G. Harrison. In his short text, E-Book Wars: How to Avoid Review-Bombs and What to Do When They Happen, he shares useful techniques to avoid and to protect against such reviews and what to do when an unscrupulous "author" plants a review-bomb on your next book. One can't always prevent this, but there are a number of ways to make your book stand strong against an assault that has tanked so many otherwise viable e-books.

This book also contains general tips and tricks to make your next e-book a success. This is a must-read.

From Introduction: "Self-publishing e-books is the fastest growing way to get your words out there. There are plenty of huge online retailers, willing to let you publish your book for free. But what happens when the very forum you’re using becomes hostile; not because of the actual content of the book, but because someone else has published an e-book in the same category, and will do anything (short of actually reading the book) to drop your ranking and lower the appeal of your work?

Inaccurate, malicious, negative reviews used solely to make one author’s book appear to be less viable than that which belongs to the reviewer, or an author for which the reviewer prefers is something that’s grown rampant. I call it review-bombing. The problem is that it’s the authors and the readers who lose.

Reviews matter in the business of publishing in general, but never more so than in self-published books. When you come across a book by an author whose name you don’t recognize, it’s only natural to place some real stock in what people have to say about it. That’s what makes review-bombing so damaging to a book and an author.

In this text, we’ll explore some simple tips that will dissuade those who would try to lower your book’s ratings in order to bolster their own, and show you what to do when some unscrupulous 'author' tries to torpedo your work no matter what you do to prevent it."
