A concise selection of ORIGINAL dramatic monologues for men. Written by professional script writer Albert Jamae (see bio below)
This book is for actors who are looking for dynamic pieces to perform in auditions, self-testing, show reels or workshops. Being original doesn’t just refer to my writing, but means the actor is encouraged to find their own interpretation without influence from previous performances or classically known pieces. This allows the actor to truly dig deep to find that unique ‘something’ that is always looked for in an audition scenario.
I’ve attempted to keep them as short as possible, as the people who see your performance will judge you within the first ten seconds! Hopefully you can keep them going all the way. They were all written with an intuitive approach and I’m confident that actors applying their own intuition, and risk taking, have an opportunity to create some wonderful reads; and if it lands you a gig I’d love to hear about it!
Here’s the list –
“Acting” - the vulnerable voyage of becoming an actor
“Unforgiven” - a damaged son has drawn the line with his mother
“Coming Home” - held grudges from a son to his father
“Goodbye Harold” - regret of losing a loved one
“His Mid Life” - the brewing mid life crisis
“Slice” - addicted to suicidal attempts
“Sector 7” - a military colonel caught between his values
TESTIMONIALS
“I have used a great deal of Albert Jamae’s scripts in workshops for adults, teenagers, and youngsters. The scripts are mercifully short, relevant and interesting, and most importantly, students relate to the situations. The scripts allow actors to make a variety of choices to enhance their performances.” SUE MANGER: Australian Casting Consultant
“Hooray for an original audition manual! This will be a great addition to any actor’s bag of tricks; concise, entertaining and in our own vernacular.”
CAITLIN Mac DOUGALL: Actress – The Alice, Always Greener
“This audition manual is a great idea and a must for every actor. There are few around that are as simple and straight forward in delivery and style. It will also be a useful tool for Casting Directors, with unique and interesting pieces to work with in order to see various actor’s strengths and weaknesses.” WIZZY EVANS: Casting Director – The Secret Life of Us, Last Man Standing
“This book will be of great value to actors young and old, who are coming up for an audition. As one who has failed more auditions than he has had hot breakfasts, I can say that I wish I’d had more audition guidelines years ago. This book helps fill a big gap.”
WAYNE ANTHONEY: Drama Tutor – Adelaide Centre of the Arts
“The audition is the actor’s opportunity to show the director and producers that they’re right for the role. This manual will provide original pieces and practical advice for actors to prepare themselves for auditions, helping to relieve their nerves to let their talent shine through at the moment that counts.” KATE CROSER: Producer – Hedone Films
Albert Jamae has been working as a ‘self taught’ professional actor, writer and director of stage and screen since 1992. As an actor he’s worked in film, television, theatre, corporate videos, website promotions and radio commercials. He hosted Australian children’s show Here’s Humphrey for channel nine (1993-96), toured around Australia and Overseas with cabaret shows, corporate events, Disney and Warner Brothers. In 1998 he began writing, directing, and producing a slate of local film and theatre projects, operated as an actor’s agent for four years and held various script and story writing workshops. He’s written copy for radio stations, won script writing competitions for radio commercials and kids plays, along with articles and poetry being published in local magazines and newspapers.
And providing audition material for aspiring actors, passionate teachers and dedicated agents is a service he hopes you’ll enjoy...as much as he enjoys writing them - chookas!
