    About

Build an elegant dynamic overlay network using features such as Dynamic GRE and IPsec to enable secure, flexible services over an iP-only WAN and then extend the overlay to Cloud DC Interconnect with new Junos 14.1 features such as EVPN.

IP backbones can no longer be designed simply to transport IP packets. Instead, Internet Protocol (IP) backbones must be capable of providing multiple Layer 2 and Layer 3 secure services over a single physical IP-only infrastructure, using techniques such as secure transport layers. How does one achieve this flexibility? The answer is to overlay, or tunnel in traditional parlance, but because today’s networks are required to be highly scalable and extremely dynamic, the solution needs to be simple, scalable, and flexible.

Day One: Building Dynamic Overlay Service-Aware Networks details two major use cases: a scaled WAN solution, both with and without IPsec; and, a data center interconnect (DCI) use case where Ethernet VPN (EVPN) is employed to showcase the control-plane MAC learning, and Layer 2 and Layer 3 unification (MAC+IP binding) capabilities.

The author shows off the unique capabilities of the Juniper MX and SRX Series in this lab-friendly Day One book providing step-by-step instructions. Use the configurations included and build a reliable and scalable network without the high administrative overhead of provisioning hundreds of individual tunnels or connections.

IT’S DAY ONE AND YOU HAVE A JOB TO DO, SO LEARN HOW TO:
    • Better understand the challenges facing Enterprises and SPs alike when running services over IP backbones in WAN and DCI topologies.
    • Better understand dynamic overlay features solutions available across Junos platforms.
    • Know and use special Junos commands related to security, MPLS VPNs, forwarding policies, and virtualization.
    • Be able to deploy MX and SRX series platforms in a variety of roles. nBuild a working model in your lab.
