    About

I have been a Tarot enthusiast for as long as I can remember. I think I got my first deck, a Rider-Waite, when I was eleven or twelve years old, and I have used them ever since for illumination and introspection for myself and others.
My latest purchase was the Illuminati Tarot Kit, which comes in a beautiful boxed set with the cards and an explanatory book. The art work by Erik Dunne is amazing. There is a Tarot bag for sale separately, but I decided to make my own and infuse it with my own energy.
When I begin a new project I like to take pictures and write a pattern to make it available to others that might want to make one for themselves. This is an easy pattern that uses basic crochet stitches and it can be embellished after it is finished. I will take you step by step with pictures through the creation of your own tarot bag. If you have basic crochet skills you should be able to make one for yourself. The Stitches used are single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch.
When I went looking for yarn for my project I cruised up and down the aisles of yarn at my favorite yarn shop looking at the colors and touching the textures until I found the right one. There it was in colors that I knew would
match the colors in the cards. Caron's Simply Soft has a new line of colors called "Paints". The soft shades of blue and green match the cards in the Illuminati Tarot Deck almost exactly. You can add more colors with embellishments like charms, lace, or ribbon, which you can choose for yourself. The yarn wrapper names the color as "Spring Brook" number C9700P. One 4 ounce skein will make one bag and maybe two.
You should be able to adapt this pattern to any size Tarot deck easily. Your beginning chain will determine the size of the bag. Tarot cards come in many different sizes and shapes. You can use any color yarn you choose, but I highly recommend the yarn I used to make the bag in the pictures. It has a wonderful soft silky feel to it, and lends its self well to a tarot bag.
Yarn used: Caron Simply Soft "Paints" in Spring Brook color
Hooks: H (or 6) (5mm) for the bag and H and G for the drawstrings
Embellishments: Whatever you have. I used pieces of earrings, a medallion, beads, and a crystal. The pattern is for the basic bag only.
    Gauge: 5 stitches = 1 inch 6 rows = 1 inch
    6 stitches = 3 cm 7 rows = 3 cm
The pattern is written in tutorial style for those of you who are fairly new to crochet and may have trouble with crochet shorthand. I use easy to understand English terms.

Please be aware that you will not be able to print off the pattern from your digital reader. You can, however, read the pattern from your phone, tablet, or computer if it supports the Kindle app.
