A young American, Pete Nordqvist, heads to Afghanistan to put a monkey wrench in the U.S. war machine after his mentor and father figure is detained by the U.S. government and rendered to Syria to be tortured. Pete has a narrow brush with death and is sent by Al-Qaida back to Oregon to set up an attack on Facebook's huge data center. But Pete falls for the sheriff's daughter and grows fond of the cowboy town of Prineville. The terror group sends hit men to carry out the attack, forcing Pete to make a choice: Either stand by and let it happen or pick up a gun. This book is not just a thriller. It is also about making moral choices. And how, if a bad decision is made, redemption is possible for those who seek it out.
