India Pale Ale (IPA) is one the most popular styles in the U.S. was originally developed in the 1790’s by the British to handle the long arduous journey to India to supply its colonies. Today it’s brewed by most brewers to accommodate the masses that are in love with the resinous grapefruit bitterness balanced by a solid malt backbone that support the hops to a dry finish.
This style of beer pairs well with foods and is suited for the likes of Cajun foods, Indian cuisine and just about any spicy complex foods, but that doesn’t mean their abilities stop there. They are actually great with burgers, grilled chicken, oily fish or even any solid sandwich on rye.
Adding it to foods is a whole new level of experiencing with the IPA, giving more of a sharp complex character to these 26 recipes that introduce the IPA to cooking. Admittedly the IPA can be a bit brash for most foods, but taking advantage of similarities as in the pairings mentioned above could work well. Remember that cooking concentrates the flavors and bitter can become even more bitter, so err on the side of caution and don’t go overboard.
Enjoy your beer with food, family and friends.
