The 18th Dynasty.
Akhenaten, the reformist pharaoh, has died, and his successor, the child pharaoh Tutankhamun, is effectively controlled by political schemers with no love for Akhenaten's old supporters.
Many of them have lost their lives, but Huy, once a scribe in Akhenaten's court, is luckier: He's lost merely his home and the right to practice his trade.
His friend, Amotju encourages him to move to the south to get on with his life and he has his own reason: he believes his rival is trying to kill him and wants Huy to investigate.
In desperation, Huy becomes a travelling troubleshooter, the world's first private eye. He blunders into an increasingly violent and dangerous situation when Amotju stumbles on a tomb robbing operation and asks Huy to investigate.
In his first case, he is up against Egypt's powerful priesthood and a brutal gang of tomb-robbers, all while trying to evade the clutches of the secret police.
He’s thrown into his new role as an investigator, but can he find any clues that his friend is in danger?
And can he do it without getting himself into danger with the police and the dangerous gangs encircling him?
The answers lie just beyond the horizon…
