The child pharaoh Tutankhamun is dead, and his ageing successor Ay has married his granddaughter Ankhesenaum as a ploy to father an heir and keep his rival Horemheb off the Golden Chair.
Huy had become the world’s first private eye after being forced to quit his profession as scribe, but he is forbidden by the distrusting Ay to do any more ‘problem-solving.’
Huy’s friend Chaemhet, one of Ay’s principal servants, has embarked on a passionate love affair with a member of the king’s harem, Teje.
But with a wife carrying his child and the knowledge that abusing his position of trust to the king could cost him his life, Chaemhet is desperate to put an end to the affair.
When the manipulative dwarf Gewa finds out and is murdered in his bedchamber, Huy suspects his friend is behind it.
He is called upon by Ay to resume his detective duties – and as more blood is spilled can he find who the real murderer is?
