About
Al Capone was never able to eliminate the Touhy Gang from his competition in bootleg liquor during the Prohibition Era days of Chicago's 1920s and 1930s. The Touhy were taken down in part because Capone assisted corrupt Chicago Policemen in staging a kidnapping that was blamed on them. Roger the Terrible Touhy and his cohorts were bootleggers but also kidnapped important businessmen and robbed mail trucks in various sections of the United States. Two of their most noted thefts of federal mail, bonds and securities occurred in Charlotte, North Carolina and Sacramento, California.
