Building a New System of Learning

Spotlight on Digital Media and Learning reports on how, in a hyper-connected world, learning happens both in and out of the classroom. This collection of news stories and interviews with digital media experts shows the development of a new learning ecosystem – one that connects online and virtual learning opportunities with physical spaces where youth, mentors, educators, game developers, media producers, and many others work face-to-face.
Examples include maker spaces that encourage hands-on learning; YOUmedia, which started as a digital learning space at Chicago’s Harold Washington Library and is expanding nationwide; and the Hive Learning Network, which connects a city’s numerous learning opportunities – from museums and art institutes to afterschool programs -- into a big game-board for children.
