Halona Mountain looks magnificent this summer. But it’s hot and, without warning, a fire begins in the Hinto Forest. Kitchi and Lena are asked to save Elu the tortoise and her baby, Aquene. But they’re scared of the flames, as anyone would be. Mahkah the beaver has a plan to stop the fire, by breaking the wall to the dam that he and his family built on top of the mountain, above the forest. Will Mahkah’s plan work? Will Kitchi and Lena save Elu and Aquene? Journey with them on their adventure to find out.
Kitchi And The Mountain Fire is book two in a series of adventure stories for children about a bear cub named Kitchi. This story, as with the first - ‘The Bear Who Could Fly’ - has been written for children aged 4 to 8 years old. It is set in the Hinto Forest where Kitchi, his best friend Lena, and his family live happily with their friends.
With outstanding, detailed, and inspiring illustrations children can watch the story unfold and get to know each character by heart.
On a hot summer’s day Onacona, the wise crooked eye-browed owl, flies franticly over the forest telling all of the animals that a fire has started. Worried that Elu the tortoise and her baby, Aquene, are in danger - Tyee the great elk asks Kitchi and Lena to run into the forest and save them from the flames.
While Kitchi proved how brave he was in his first story, this time he fears the flames. But then he remembers just how brave he can be and with Lena he heads for the forest to save Elu and Aquene.
Mahkah the beaver has a plan to put the fire out by breaking down the dam walls. ‘Hopefully the rushing waters will put the fire out’ he thinks, ’and put an end to the danger that the forest now faces.’
At the end of the story Tyee says that ‘working together saved the day’. He also explains how destruction often leads to new beginnings. Therefore, once again, Kitchi’s story bares a wonderful message for young children.
