It's Christmas 2004. Avery Shaw and her family are vacationing in Thailand, but on the morning after Christmas Day an earthquake in the Indian Ocean catapults a tsunami into motion. Consumed by the waves, Avery survives the ordeal and is separated from her family. When she hears the cries of a young boy she first thinks is her brother, she finds instead six year old Declan. Greeted with the destruction of not only a city, but to the destruction of their entire lives, Avery and Declan find themselves alone among the chaos.
Hoping to keep her promise to Declan of finding their families, Avery suddenly becomes the protector of a frightened boy and the pledger of impossible truths.
