Bonnie - The Dancing Bunny is a short story about knowing oneself and being oneself in the face of adversity.
The world is always pushing and is consistently placing us on a road where we need to measure up to other people’s expectations. It is a norm to go for the path that is traveled by most. In the pressure of our daily lives, living up to the status quo would be easier and more secure than most anything else. The consequence of giving in to this usually means that we put our dreams on hold. In putting our hopes and aspirations away we dangerously dim our own spirit’s flame.
As someone so young, Bonnie has discovered who she wants to become. As a child she dreams to be a dancer she goes for it. She does what she loves and therefore she is happy. But like all of us Bonnie has society to impose its norms on her.
In trying to live up to her mom’s expectations she loses sight of who she is for a while. It is through Bonnie’s friend Jenny that she is reminded of what truly is important than any norm or expectation. Bonnie quietly figures out that only in doing what you love can you truly be happy. With the help her friend Jenny she is reminded of what is truly important in our lives. That is to smile and to be happy.
Happiness is about acting on one’s dreams. This is important since these are the things that truly define us. This is because our dreams are who we are. We are ourselves most when we are working on our dreams. Only in working on our dreams are we able to discover our true selves. So just like Bonnie guard your dreams. Find friends that help keep your flame alive.
