In the north the British attack at Arras. In a stunning display of skill and courage they punch a hole through the enemy lines, forcing the Germans to fall back in disorder. The British look poised on the brink of success. One more hammer blow and the enemy must surely crumble.
Despite their losses the Germans hold on stubbornly, causing the attack to stall. Then, in the south, the French offensive meets with slaughter and mutiny forcing the British to continue the assault at Arras alone.
