On January 2nd 2014, Andy Butler set out on his hardest journey yet. After living with bulimia and binge eating disorder since he was a teenager, Andy set out to change his life. He was 32 and weighed 28 stone. 10 months later he had lost over 16 stone and, while not claiming to be 'cured' he has conquered many demons along the way. Losing so much weight was not easy but he achieved this through hard work, exercise and weight-loss surgery.
This book is his journal detailing a 16 stone weight-loss, documenting everything he felt and went through during the 10 months it took to reach his goal weight. This book is a brutally honest real life tale of how he personally overcame his binge eating disorder and changing his life. It also looks at how he built exercise into his daily life and a personal account of his gastric sleeve operation.
This book doesn't set out to offer any advice and Andy doesn't claim to have the answers, nor is he qualified to offer any or give any advice. This is his truth and documents the pain, problems, highs and lows of his incredible achievement.
One thing Andy couldn’t find when he first started investigating weight-loss surgery was a real life perspective from another patient. There are plenty of medical books and professional opinions, but very few books that give a true insight into how somebody might feel. Of course, everyone feels differently, both before and after surgery. However, if any of this book helps future weight-loss surgery patients prepare for a life changing operation then he is happy to share his own personal experience.
While this is primarily a story of weight-loss, this is also a story of immense courage and determination and of sticking with something despite all sorts of obstacles.
Andy's story was so inspiring that it was picked up my local and national media including the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, Daily Star and the Liverpool Echo. Andy is one of the brave contributors to the hard hitting and honest Channel 5 documentary 'Me and My... Eating Disorder'
(Please note that this book is written from a personal perspective and is in no way intended to offer professional advice)
