Join me as I tear across the Australian outback from Melbourne to Perth with nothing but a motorcycle and a backpack.
Come face to face with kangaroos, camel, emus and Australia’s most notorious animal of all…the fly. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it would be like to drive across Australia, this is your chance. If you are planning the trip for the first time, this travelogue will show you what you can expect along the way.
Why I wrote this travelogue
I wrote this book for me…initially. When I did this trip in 2014, I kept a diary and posted online in a closed group just for friends and family. Later that year, I decided to turn the diary and online postings into this ebook for others to read. I kept the style of writing simple and informal, as I wanted to present the experience through my own eyes and thoughts.
Who should read this travelogue
If you want to know what it’s like to ride a motorcycle across Australia, then this is the book for you! A lot of people are intimidated at the prospect of driving across such a vast expanse and especially crossing the Nullarbor. I’m here to shine the light on that and show you that it can be fun and not really that big a deal, even on a motorcycle. Heck, I didn’t even have a motorcycle licence when I started the trip.
Disclaimer
This isn’t a guidebook, it’s a travelogue. It’s not a tutorial on how to ride across Australia, it’s a travel experience as I experienced it. At the time of writing, I had approximately two years riding experience, mostly from living in S.E. Asia. I’m certainly not an authority on motorcycles or motorcycle riding but I am an enthusiast.
Bare Bones Series
Bare Bones Motorcycle Trip is the first in a series of Bare Bones trips in which the author takes off on an adventure with essentially, nothing except a small backpack.
