    FAQ

    1. How many translations does the dictionary contain?
The dictionary contains more than 165.000 translations from English into French.

    2. Can the dictionary translate from French into English?

No. Like other dictionaries, our dictionary is one-directional. It is possible to compile a bidirectional dictionary, however, it would not provide the best quality.

    3. Does babelpoint plan to publish a French English dictionary?
Yes. We are working on several dictionaries from French into other languages. We will publish these as soon as they are ready.

    4. How can I install the dictionary?

Select Goto from the menu and then choose installation. There you will find instructions on installing a dictionary.

    5. When an entry appear twice, once in uppercase and once in lower case, what does that mean?
Many English words belong to different word classes. Where a word is also a proper name, we present both versions one in uppercase, the other in lower case.

    6. How many words have phonetic transcription?
There are about 100.000 words, including their forms with phonetic transcriptions. Most of them abide by the Received Pronunciation (RP), the standard version in the UK. If a word has a variety of pronunciations, then we have opted for the most commonly used version.

    7. A number appears in parentheses after a word (13) - what does this mean?
Where an entry has more than 3 translations, the number of translations is indicated by the number in parentheses. Scroll to the Smart-Lookup-window to see more translations or tables.

    8. The letter (B) appears in parentheses after some words, what does this mean?
    (B) means that the word is listed in the list of basic vocabulary. There are about 1000 of those entries.

    9. (tbl) appears in many places, what does this mean?
(tbl) means that this entry offers further information (apart from the translations) in a table. This one can be accessed by scrolling the window.

    10. How many tables does the dictionary have?
The dictionary has about 35.000 tables.

    11. Some words do not have tables, why is this?
Tables only appear where there is a phonetic transcription. We are adding more phonetic transcriptions and as we do, more tables will be included.

    12. How many words have a syllable division?
The dictionary contains details regarding syllable division for more than 100.000 words. The syllables are marked with this sign · (a·ban·doned). The rules of English syllable division are quite different to those in other languages,
therefore we have added the division in the phonetic transcription as well.

    13. What is the word recognition rate of the dictionary?
The recognition is currently more than 85%

    14. Can I download a test version of the dictionary?
Yes you can download a test version of the dictionary but it lacks functionality. For full functionality you must purchase the dictionary or subscribe it if you are a kindle unlimited customer.

    16. Is babelpoint developing further dictionaries?
    Yes. Stay tuned!

    17. Why do babelpoint dictionaries have few customer reviews?
We care about the integrity of our work, and hence do not submit reviews ourselves of our own products, as others do. We have found some competitors have individuals who praise their work and then submit reviews of other dictionaries which are generally negative. Our view is that prospective customers do not benefit from this activity, there
