Depression is a common and debilitating condition which affects approximately one in eight people. In addition, it is expected to be the second -leading cause of disability in the world by the year 2020. Depression can be treated successfully and remission is the aim and it is associated with a return of normal psychosocial function, lower rates of relapse, lower risk of suicide and alcohol or drug abuse, lack of disabling symptoms and overall a better prognosis.
