As a non-native English speaker, communicating with people from the United States (often referred to as Americans) can be extremely difficult. People who talk too quickly/quietly make comprehension problematic. Additionally, the use of slang (informal, non-academic, words and phrases) can lead to misunderstandings and confusion. While you can ask people to slow down and speak-up (talk louder), understanding local slang is a bit more challenging.
