Not since the famed Merchant Marines and John Wayne's Fighting Seabees of WWII have so many brave, unarmed civilian workers placed themselves in harm's way supporting American troops as they have during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
OIF, dubbed the Second Gulf War by many, was nearly solely supported in the early years by the huge defense contractor Halliburton/KBR. Halliburton, then the parent company, was led by Dick Cheney until he was elected Vice President of the United States in 2000 under George W. Bush. Hence, the connection which led to much controversy and conflict of interest claims after the 2003 invasion of Iraq and subsequent hiring of Halliburton/KBR as the main contractor.
I was there from the beginning and I invite you to come with me as the key, significant events of this devastating and costly war unfold. Join me as I dodge the pitfalls and political correctness of KBR's corporate world while working side-by-side with our semi-dysfunctional military war machine in Kuwait and the combat zones of Iraq, from March 2003 through October 2007. Stay with me as I witness many of the atrocities of war and the astonishing bravery of our American ground troops and their civilian support staff.
This is a true story and is told as I lived it, highlighting the negatives as well as the positives of the time I spent as an American Expat.
