American by Choice: Dr. Pedro Garcia

Dr. Pedro Garcia lived under Castro’s communist Cuba for 4 years before he came to America at the age of 15 with his younger brother. They lived in a refugee camp then in a small motel room in Miami before settling in the small community of Clarinda, Iowa. There, Pedro learned English, became a real teenager, graduated from high school and embraced American culture. This is his story of transition and triumph.
