    About

Memories of an East-End of London Family in post-War England.
Alfie Dodd was born in 1939 at the start of WW2 of a Jewish mother in an area of East London well known for its mixed population of mainly Christians and descendants of Eastern European Jewish immigrants.
Through his father's infidelity he was raised in a Christian home and was often involved in the conflict that was present between the different religious and ethical groups. Young Alfie was taken into care but was able to win a place at the prestigious local Hackney Downs Grammar School. Alfie was a rebel but two teachers at the school saw a spark in him and fought to keep him at the school. This is the tale he wrote to describe his life.
The story gives a vivid and accurate view of how life was in the East-End of London in the difficult post-war era of the 1940s and 1950s.
