Tuk Tuks, also known as tri-shaws or three wheelers in the eastern world, are a common sight. They are also a must try on any visitor's list - but the suggestion (or dare) goes with a warning to HOLD ON!
These books are written for children, and attempt to capture both the experience of living in Colombo (the commercial capital of Sri Lanka) and the joys and perils of Tuk Tuks on the streets. The series centres around Roo, a little red Tuk Tuk. It takes you through his ups and downs and adventures.
The very first book is chronologically the end of the tale and introduces the characters of Roo and his driver both faded and old. Aju the driver and owner of the trishaw is a master story teller and regales his audience with his tales of daring do. But, will Roo be removed to the scrap yard? Or, will Aju and his young friends be able to stop them in time?
The rest of the series fleshes out what we here as mere references and snippets in the first installment.
Fans of Thomas the Tank Engine and such like will find a new friend in Roo, in a setting quite exotic but exciting.
The stories cover accidents, competitions, surprises and so one.
