The story of a sensitive, imaginative little girl who asks far too many questions. When her mother is expecting the ninth baby, Marie is sent to stay with her Grandma and Grandpa. She has to grow up a little so that when she returns home, she can assume her duties and responsibilities in the large, bustling Afrikaner family. Money is scarce, and everyone have to contribute towards keeping the household going.
