Srinagar is the summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The city lies on the banks of the Jhelum River and finds itself full of beautiful gardens and lakes. It is famous for its houseboats, which are floating houses built on intricately decorated large boats. These form one of the most perfect places of residences for any visiting tourist.
Srinagar is one of the most touristy places in Jammu and Kashmir, and has always been so. (Although over the past decade it has been witnessing some agitations because of the Hindu – Muslim and India – Pakistan conflicts.) Never the less, it has not let the touristy nature of the city diminish. It only finds more number of armed army officials patrolling now than before; rest is all the same.
Apart from the many places to see in Srinagar, it also consists of several weekend getaways in the form of Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam; as well as several other destinations, all in the midst of the beautiful Kashmir valley, which is said to be at par with the beautiful valleys of Switzerland.
So read the book, pack your bags and see it all for yourself; and capture the beauty of Srinagar with the most powerful lenses in the world, your eyes!
