A diary written by John Edgar Humphrey who was in the Royal Amoured Corps British Army as a private soldier in 1940. While being trained for war he moved around England and Wales quite extensively. His 21st birthday was on the 22nd August 1940 and he had originally thought he'd be in France by that date!
Whilst he records mainly his leisure activities revolving mainly around girls, drinking, playing cards, it also details getting into trouble with his superiors and how he often tried avoiding working too hard! There are some gaps with no entries in December, but all in all it makes it makes for some fairly lively reading!
I'm pleased to confirm that John survived the war and eventually became a schoolmaster. He married Joyce in June1950 but they had no children before sadly passing away in November 1995 aged 76.
