    About

We all know who said "I'll say this again: I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." Or who dryly commented: "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded." Here are over 1500 carefully selected savvy and not so savvy sayings from people of wisdom, fame, and fortune (and by many, many others not so smart, insightful, or lucky) in life or by accident. These are the inspired words and unforgettable quotes by illuminries like Obama and GW Bush, Reagan and Kennedy, Woody Allen, Mark Twain, Yogi Berra, Ogden Nash, and a whole host of others from around the world and down through the ages.
They are the amazing words that became famous or feared, the misunderstood ones, the wrong expressions, the lies and the lofty promises, the misplaced or misused expressions that have caused innumerable smirks and smiles, provided material for snide remarks and outlandish jokes, witty allegations, and causes of laughter, as well as of rage over imbecility, rank stupidity and abhorrent ignorance.
Just think about how many words we have to describe such words, ranging from the mild ones, like remark, comment, and afterthought to the stronger type, wisecrack, rebuttal, repartee, retort, and mouthful, or joke, spoof, gag, and jest.
This e-book also contains a large selection of a whole slew of phrases and words that demonstrate many of the well known peculiarities of the English language and its many uses. Here are statements in so-called Engrish, examples of bewildering rules of pronunciation, a long piece written without using the letter "e", plus good computer advice from the Germans as well as by Dr Seuss.
Look at this list of entries: They should have known better, Origins of Expressions, Seeking Closure, Post Mortem, Irish wishes, Wisdom from Around the World, Proverbs not to be Trusted, George W. Bush, Sir Winston Churchill, Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain, Yogi Berra, Woody Allen, Will Rogers, Oscar Wilde, Albert Einstein, Ogden Nash, plus lists of Words by the Rich and Famous and From the Sages of History.
Then there are the funny parts, like Seen on T-shirts, Said about Dogs, Model Declarations, Sporty Thoughts, Bumper Sticker Wisdom, Revised Definitions, Lovely Sentiments, Church Bulletin Messages, Rejection Formulas, as well as Newspaper Headlines.
Finally we find the peculiar English parts: Palindromic Feats, Oxymoronic Double-Talk, Chiasmic Reflections, Well known Wisecracks, Homonymic Excesses, Anagrammic Revelations, Mixed Metaphores, Misspoken Misses, English Oddeties, Pattern Recognition, Well Known One-Liners, Spelling Bee Final Words, EU on Simplifying English, A Taste of Engrish, Proper Pronunciation, Plural Pronouncements, and Bulwer-Lytten Winners. These are followed by American Bird Songs, A Classic Joke, A Poor Pun, A Good Story, and A Lesson on Living. So, here is the raw material for a fabulous speech, an opening address, a special note, or an erudite comment. All hand-picked for you.
