Devil’s Canyon was once filled with black rock. There are two main theories of where the name came from. The first is because of the depth of the canyon and ancient beliefs of its proximity to hell and the second is because people used to associate the color black with evil and sorcery. Either way, people were superstitious and gave it the name Devil’s Canyon… According to one legend a monster once haunted the canyon. People would wander into the forest and simply disappear. Some thought it was a deranged serial killer and others were convinced that the devil himself haunted the woods. Years ago they flooded the canyon by damming the Little Crooked Fork River, turning the canyon into a man-made lake. It is said they did this to drown the monster that lived there. Some believed the monster was somehow connected to the dark rock and would forever remain below the depths of the water. The monster actually had a name, he was known as the Night Terror. The book takes place as a group of campers are pitted against the entity known as The Night Terror.
