    About

What Type of Business? — Commercial Photography of course!
Proprietorship, Single Proprietorship, Freelance, and Independent Contractor – One person ownership of single business. Law doesn’t distinguish between the business and it’s owner’s assets. Consequently, the business debts are the owner’s debts. Conversely, the business profits are the owner’s profit.
Partner Proprietorship – Two or more persons share ownership of a single business. Law doesn’t distinguish between the business and it’s owners assets. Meaning the business’s debts are the owner’s debts. Nevertheless, the business profits are the owner’s profits
Robert Perrett – has been associated with Photography Research Institute Carson Endowment for a number of decades helping and coordinating production on the research of the business of commercial photography.
Robert’s work includes a work-in-progress memorial video for Palos Verdes on the NET. He is knowledgeable about Production Management procedures and work-flow for Animation, and Live-Action Video Production. Robert received his BFA from California State University Fullerton.
In some places in the book, the narrative switches to the first person style. That first person is Thomas Perrett’s thoughts. Robert Perrett considered as being relevant to the bottom line. (It sounds better than “my daddy said. . . “) It is up to your business to determine the effectiveness of the propositions. They were found to be effective in many businesses.
This book deals with the proprietorship type of business which is conducted for the sole purpose of making a profit. The proprietorship’s function is not to pay its owner a wage, salary, or any other type of employee benefit or compensation. Its sole function is to make a profit.
This type of business’s accounting system usually provides a way for owner’s access to cash thru a drawing account which affects your asset account.
What you do with the profit is up to you. Incidentally, if you don’t have the profit you won’t have the problem of thinking what do with it.
Perrett’s Guide: A Guide to Making Photography Profitable in the final analysis offers ideas for conducting a single proprietorship type of Commercial Photography business. Finding clients and getting business.
The type of business defines the objectives and goal of why you’re in business. The number one and only reason is profit. Profit is the end result of a specific business period. It’s the result of what you did during that period.
Do you want to make money with your photography and services? This book will point you in the direction of what is necessary to make a profit. We can tell you that now. Find people who want or need your photography and services and sell them on the idea that you have what they want. However, if you're any kind of photographer you know you have the product they want to buy. Your problem is finding them and convincing them that you do have what they want.
Are you already in the business of making money with your photography? This book will suggest some of the things that you'll want to consider to maximize your profit. We can also tell you that now. Find people who want or need your photography and services and sell them on the idea that you have what they want. Of course, you know that, but knowing is not enough. Your problem is finding them and convincing them that your photography is an absolute necessity.
If your photography is worthy of their business, then convincing them to buy isn't the major problem. Finding them and keeping them coming back is and always will be.
Through out this book reference (his opinion) is made to legal, law, accounting, and other customs and principles. Robert Perrett is not an authority in these fields and you should seek your own lawyer, accountant, and/or your own experts advice and help.
A course in Business Law and Accounting 101 before you start your business may be very helpful and give you an idea of when you need legal and accounting help.
