Lots of people want to save the planet, but some people think the planet is more important than the people, and they've found a way to make a buck out of it…
Michelle Babcock, the granddaughter of South Florida’s legendary restaurateur, millionaire Hank Hickham, has disappeared. Hank sends the girl's father to his friend, Carlos "Chuck" McCrary, who helped Hank out of a personal crisis at the hands of a blackmailer. [Author's note: Double Fake, Double Murder tells the story].
Chuck finds Michelle with James Ponder, her drug addict boyfriend, but she refuses to go home. Michelle expected free tutoring in college chemistry when she slept with Ponder, a graduate student obsessed with global warming protests. Chuck leaves Michelle his cell number in case she changes her mind.
Michelle wakes Chuck with a 4:30 a.m. phone call, desperate for help. Ponder has duped her into helping with an environmental terrorist attack that murdered two people in the name of saving the planet. Now Michelle faces a lifetime in prison, unless Chuck can find her a way out.
Michelle only wanted to be a good citizen of earth when she got involved with a campus environmental club. Instead, she is sucked into an unhealthy gang of friends surrounding an amoral professor whose secret agenda has yielded him millions of dollars from government corruption with more loot to come. Michelle is swept up in a nightmare of political corruption, organized crime, and mega-million-dollar taxpayer rip-offs.
Chuck uncovers a conspiracy involving arson, murder, and the Chicago mafia. A mysterious millionaire has masterminded a string of mega-million-dollar stock market scams that reach back for five years. The mastermind intends to cut his losses by murdering anyone who can lead the cops back to him. That includes Michelle, Chuck, and the conscienceless professor, who becomes Chuck’s unwilling ally.
Interview with the Author
Q - What makes the Carlos McCrary series exceptional?
A – I consider myself a serious mystery and thriller fan. My novels reflect the kind of books I like to read. My top picks are usually private detective novels, any of the thousands of thrillers and mysteries best sellers, and, of course, books featuring classic heroes like Spenser (he with no first name) and Jack Reacher (who has a first name but doesn't use it much). Basically, I like stories with a kick-butt, take-no-prisoners attitude and fast-paced action. And maybe a little sex.
The Carlos McCrary books are a great mix of these genres. The series focuses on the mystery and thriller / private investigator genre overall, with a couple of vigilante justice thrillers thrown in, some political corruption thrillers, and some organized crime and mafia involvement to keep things interesting!
Overall, I designed the series to keep you up late a night. Once you start a book, it's hard to quit.
Q - What order should I read the books in?
A - You can read the books in any order. All the stories tie up nicely by the time you finish. If you want to read them in order, I'd suggest the following sequence:
- I'm No Hero (a short story prequel that introduces Carlos McCrary as a Green Beret in Afghanistan in the military rescue that earned him the Bronze Star medal and a Purple Heart)
- Six Murders Too Many
- Double Fake, Double Murder
- Quarterback Trap
- Dangerous Friends
- Day of the Tiger
- McCrary's Justice
Q - So, why should readers try these books?
A - Because the Carlos McCrary series is a fast, fun, thrill-ride that takes no prisoners! Ultimately, readers who enjoy lightning-fast pacing with a plot that twists and turns all the way to the end will get a kick out of this series.
And thanks for reading!
