Penwell House is a rambling grey stone hotel near the village of Colpen, on the wild coast of Cornwall. Run by the eponymous Miss Penwell, the establishment is a quiet haven, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. But no longer. For when Miss Penwell's childhood friend Vera Carter returns from a trip to London, she and her son are tailed by two ruthless blackmailers.
